Kevin Scarce was born on 4 May 1952 in Adelaide and attended Elizabeth East Primary School and Elizabeth High School. In 1968, Scarce went to the Royal Australian Navy College (Creswell) at Jervis Bay, graduating in 1972. From 2004 – 2005 Scarce was Chief Executive Officer of the South Australian Defence Unit. In May 2007 he was appointed to be Governor of South Australia. At the time, Scarce was the youngest governor thus far, born in SA, to occupy that position and the first Royal Australian Navy officer.
